Hokusai – “The Wave”
A cushion topped matt black frame enhances this beautiful polychrome woodcut print of the Great Wave by the Japanese artist, Hokusai, this, probably the most famous woodblock Japanese print. Hokusai was known to change his name when he changed his style.
Tom has used a matte black mount with a difference here, it is quite unusual – its a triple core effect. So the edge of the mount is white, then black and then white again. This adds another dimension to viewing this dynamic print. The cushion top frame catches the light.
